Lake District - Borrowdale (near Keswick) - Friday 10 May 2024
Our weekend is based well away from Keswick in Borrowdale which is the valley that includes Derwent Water and extends to the foot of Honister Pass at Seatoller. From here there is good access to the Scafell range, Great Gable, Greenup Edge, Haystacks and so much more! Easier walks include Watendlath, Catbells etc. Within Borrowdale and apart from walking and climbing in the hills, there are boat trips and ferries on Derwent Water, a Spa at Lodore Falls Hotel and a Via Ferrata at Honister Slate Mines etc.
6 miles south of Keswick into Borrowdale there are a number of accommodation providers in the hamlets of Stonethwaite, Rosthwaite, Seatoller and Grange. From here many excellent walks commence which should remove the need to drive and park cars, always a problem at busy times. There is an hourly open-top bus which runs up and down the valley to help with transport.
A meal for the Saturday night (11th) has been booked at the Scafell Hotel in Rosthwaite, close to Borrowdale YHA.At the time of writing most people have booked accommodation but for, those that haven't, here are some possible places to stay (note some may already be booked by members):
